Choose the Museum of History if your priority is understanding the city through exhibitions. Choose the castle tower if entering the landmark matters most. Choose the park alone if you mainly want outdoor views and a lighter budget. Our default route begins at the museum and leaves the second paid interior optional.
Which should you choose?
A realistic half-day
Start at Tanimachi 4-chome, exit 2 or 9. Allow 90 minutes for the museum and 45–60 minutes for a seated lunch before the park. Budget 25–40 minutes for the walk towards castle viewpoints, including navigation; this is our estimate, not a measured accessible route. The map links destinations rather than tracing every path.
Tickets and closing days
The museum permanent collection costs ¥600 for adults and ¥400 for high-school/university students; elementary/junior-high children enter free. Hours are 09:30–17:00, last admission 16:30. Tuesday closures move to Wednesday after a holiday Tuesday; December 28–January 4 is also closed. Special exhibitions may cost extra.
The castle tower is separate: adults ¥1,200, high-school/university students ¥600 with proof, junior-high age and younger free with proof. Overseas students should check the official ISIC requirement. Hours are 09:00–18:00, last entry 17:30, with December 28–January 1 closures. Sales of the old castle/history-museum combined ticket ended in December 2024. Do not plan around that obsolete bundle.
Lunch, rain and the second stop
Choose a seated lunch near the starting area before walking into the park. No restaurant reservation is included. If both interiors interest you, extend this to a longer day instead of rushing lunch. In persistent rain, finish after the history museum: the park transfer remains outdoors. If the museum is closed, decide whether the castle alone matches your interests before travelling.
For a different outdoor emphasis, see the castle and shrines walk.
Fit this into a longer Japan trip
Use the 10-day Japan itinerary or 14-day Japan itinerary to place this visit in a complete route with hotel nights, transfer days and luggage planning. Choose the matching city day or half-day; optional alternatives replace part of the plan rather than adding another full day.
