This route includes ordinary individual admission, not a tea ceremony, private guide or reserved meal. Check notices for your date; groups and special activities may require separate arrangements.

Food & rest breaks

Lunch 12:50–13:40 near Kokusai Kaikan. After lunch, return to your hotel or take the Karasuma Line south to Shijo and walk east to Kyoto-Kawaramachi for dinner. Allow 35–50 minutes including waiting and walking; a 13:40 finish leaves time for a hotel rest before dinner.

If it rains

The museum and the garden-viewing room provide indoor time, but station walks and temple grounds are exposed. Carry an umbrella in light rain. In heavy rain, choose the museum and a nearby lunch only. Do not describe the complete route as sheltered or step-free; confirm basement access and temple steps if mobility is a concern.

Is this route right for you?

Choose this quieter northern Kyoto half-day if tea art and a contemplative garden interest you. It suits repeat visitors or a specialist afternoon-free day; it does not replace the main sights on a first Kyoto visit.

09:30–13:40 · 4h 10m including visits, travel and lunch. These are editorial planning allowances, not measured journeys or live queues. A small museum and temple do not need to be stretched into a full sightseeing day.

What you will actually see

Furuta Oribe Museum presents changing displays connected with the tea master and tea culture. Allow 45 minutes for this small museum, not several hours. Its current venue is near Kitayama Station, on the basement floor. The exterior photograph shows that building, not a tea room or the former Takagamine site.

Myomanji’s paid honbo visit includes the Snow Garden viewpoint and exhibition room. Sit and look at the garden, then explore the open precinct respectfully. The representative photograph shows the paid garden view; free grounds access does not include that room. Snow, blossoms and particular artworks are not guaranteed.

Start, finish and connections

Start at Kitayama Station Exit 4 at 09:30. Turn right and walk about three minutes to the Furuta Oribe Museum at 107-2 Kamigamo Sakurai-cho, basement level; allow five. This is the Kitayama venue, not the former Takagamine location. Finish at Kokusai Kaikan Station after lunch.

10:20–10:30: Museum → Kitayama Station. Return to the Karasuma subway entrance.

10:30–10:45: Kitayama → Kokusai Kaikan. Take the Karasuma Line north two stops, via Matsugasaki. This allowance includes waiting and station movement.

10:45–11:10: Kokusai Kaikan → Myomanji. Walk north via public streets. Kyoto City lists about 20 minutes; allow 25 for navigation.

12:25–12:50: Myomanji → Kokusai Kaikan. Return along the public approach. Kino on the Eizan railway is closer but is a different rail route.

Use the map for stop order and the directions button for the public route. The line between pins is not a walking trail: the long connection uses the subway and a walk. Kokusai Kaikan is on the Karasuma Line; Kino, about five minutes from the temple according to Kyoto City, is on Eizan Railway and is not an interchangeable subway stop.

Hours, tickets and closed-day choices

Furuta Oribe Museum lists 09:30–17:00, closed Mondays (the next day when Monday is a public holiday), year-end and exhibition-change periods. Kyoto City lists the Oribe and Ten Potters exhibition for September 17, 2026–March 7, 2027; check the next exhibition if travelling later. This route includes ordinary individual admission, not a tea ceremony, private guide or reserved meal. Check notices for your date; groups and special activities may require separate arrangements.

Lunch, rain and a shorter visit

Lunch is planned for 12:50 near Kokusai Kaikan, after returning from the temple. Check the actual restaurant’s opening day and dietary suitability. Keep large luggage at your hotel.

If either venue is closed, choose one and lunch or use the linked botanical-garden route when it is open. Do not travel to the old Oribe museum address or fill the gap with a distant temple.

After the core route

After lunch, return to your hotel or take the Karasuma Line south to Shijo and walk east to Kyoto-Kawaramachi for dinner. Allow 35–50 minutes including waiting and walking; a 13:40 finish leaves time for a hotel rest before dinner. The separate dinner map and photo card above are optional; dinner is not included in the core duration.
