A daytime shrine and Dotonbori on day one, then the Naniwa palace remains and Osaka Castle Park on a separate historical day. Stop lengths and transfer buffers are our planning estimates, not official journey times. The map shows places rather than turn-by-turn directions; check live transport and the linked opening calendars before setting out.
Is this route for you?
Day 1: Namba Yasaka and Dotonbori
Visit the shrine while its gates are open, then enjoy Minami without a string of fixed restaurant reservations. Dotonbori can fill a relaxed afternoon or evening, but the shrine should not be left until after dinner.
Namba Yasaka Shrine
Visit the lion-head stage and shrine during the day, keeping worshippers space. It is not an evening stop after dinner.
Dotonbori
Walk along the canal and choose a seated meal. Leave room for queues rather than treating every food stall as a scheduled reservation.
Allow 20–30 minutes on foot from the shrine towards Dotonbori, depending on the canal section you choose. These allowances exclude meals and longer queues.
Day 2: Naniwa Palace remains and castle grounds
Begin at the archaeological site and read the ground plan rather than looking for a surviving palace. Continue to the castle grounds for a longer park visit. The castle museum is an optional extra, not required to complete this outdoor history route.
Naniwa Palace Site Park
Look for the marked remains and open site rather than expecting a standing palace. This is an outdoor historical stop.
Osaka Castle Park
Explore the castle grounds and exterior views. Entering the castle museum is optional and needs extra time and its own admission.
Allow 30–45 minutes from the palace site to your chosen castle-park entrance and viewpoints. The park is large; the map marker is not a nearby station gate. These allowances exclude meals and longer queues.
Meals, weather and choosing the date
Day 1: Keep lunch or dinner in Dotonbori flexible. Check menus, allergens and queue length, and sit for a proper meal instead of relying entirely on snacks. Use nearby covered shopping passages for breaks and shorten the canal walk. The shrine and riverside remain outdoor visits.
Day 2: Eat before the longer castle-park loop and carry water. Allow another hour if choosing a sit-down lunch during the park visit. For heavy rain, consider a separately ticketed castle-museum visit only after checking opening and queues; shorten the open palace site.
