Choose this course if you want a temple neighbourhood and one skyline attraction without crossing Tokyo repeatedly. Kaminarimon and Senso-ji form one connected walk, with Ueno best left for another day. A late-morning start can work, but make the Skytree booking the fixed point around which you plan lunch and transport.
Who this day suits
Kaminarimon to Senso-ji
Begin at Kaminarimon, the main gate of Senso-ji. Allow around twenty minutes for looking at the gate and taking photographs, then continue along Nakamise towards the temple. The shops and temple are different parts of the visit: do not expect every shop to be open simply because you can walk through the area.
Give Senso-ji around an hour rather than treating it as a photograph between train rides. Follow posted worship and photography instructions, keep entrances clear and leave ceremonies room to continue. Ordinary temple exploration does not require buying a Skytree or neighbourhood package. Special activities are outside this itinerary.
Lunch before changing neighbourhoods
We suggest a seated lunch in Asakusa before the train journey. Choose somewhere with a visible menu and confirm allergens or dietary requirements directly. Leave an hour rather than tying lunch to an unverified restaurant reservation. If queues use up your buffer, shorten shopping instead of rushing to a timed tower ticket.
Train to Tokyo Skytree
Return to Tobu Asakusa Station and take the Tobu Skytree Line to Tokyo Skytree Station. Tobu lists the train ride at about three minutes; walking to the platform, waiting and reaching the tower entrance are additional. Our suggested transfer allowance is 30–45 minutes from the Asakusa sightseeing area, depending on where you finish lunch.
Decide which view to buy
The operator currently lists adult online tickets from ¥1,800 for the 350-metre Tembo Deck and from ¥3,000 for the deck plus 450-metre Tembo Galleria. Prices depend on the selected date. Buying at the fourth-floor counter or machine adds ¥500 per ticket under the published rules. Check the official booking calendar rather than treating these starting prices as a quotation for your date.
We suggest around ninety minutes for the tower visit, plus any queue. An extra observation level is optional; choose it because you want the experience, not because it appears in every bundle. Clouds can change the view substantially.
If it rains
Use the train rather than extending the outdoor walk across the river. Shorten the temple approach in heavy rain and allow a longer seated break. The observation decks are indoors, but that does not guarantee a clear view or uninterrupted operation. Check conditions and the ticket's change rules before purchasing. You can also use our Tokyo three-day itinerary to swap the order of your city days.
