Arriving before hotel check-in, stopping in Kyoto between trains, or checking out before an evening departure? Choose Kyoto Station luggage storage by where you need your bags next. A locker suits a return to the same station; hotel delivery can remove that return journey. Decide before starting sightseeing so your last stop, dinner and luggage collection fit together.
Choose storage or delivery first
- A few hours, then another train: compare a locker with a staffed counter. Save the collection point before leaving.
- Staying in Kyoto tonight: ask your accommodation whether it can hold your bags. If that requires a substantial detour, compare an eligible station-to-hotel delivery service.
- A large suitcase or several bags: check dimensions and item limits before paying. A staffed counter is an alternative to searching several locker areas.
- An evening or overnight bus: work backwards from the collection deadline. A counter that closes earlier than your bus departure cannot store bags until boarding.
Kyoto City's Hands Free Kyoto service finder separates lockers, staffed storage and delivery, with both bookable and walk-in options. Its official luggage-service map helps find alternatives. Check each listing's hours and conditions; a map marker does not reserve space.
Where to find lockers and counters
Central-gate side: Crosta Kyoto
The station building FAQ places Crosta on B1. The operator's directions lead down from the conventional-line Central Gate. Follow the operator's access diagram rather than a generic Kyoto Station pin; the Shinkansen and conventional-line gates are different.
Crosta lists 08:00–20:00 storage at ¥1,000 per item per day. Check its restrictions before travelling: very large/heavy items, valuables and fragile electronics may not be accepted. Keep your collection receipt and return before closing. Capacity can run out, so have another option. Crosta details and terms.
Hachijo side: ASTY lockers and service counter
ASTY Kyoto identifies lockers near the Shinkansen Hachijo-guchi Exit, with some accepting IC cards. Its staffed counter listing places temporary storage in the 1F East Area, ASTY Road, open 09:00–20:00 at ¥700 per piece, with credit cards not accepted. Use the ASTY floor guide to distinguish areas inside and outside ticket gates. A separately listed delivery counter inside the Shinkansen gates is not the same as public-area storage.
For lockers, confirm the displayed price, size, payment method, access hours and overnight charging rule at the individual unit. There is no single price or guaranteed availability for every locker in Kyoto Station. Photograph its number and nearby signs; keep the key, receipt or payment credential needed to reopen it.
Can luggage reach my Kyoto hotel the same day?
Sometimes, with an eligible hotel and the correct cutoff. Crosta lists station-to-Kyoto-hotel delivery at ¥1,500 per item, accepted by 14:00, delivered after 17:00. Its supported-hotel list determines eligibility; a private apartment is not automatically included. The reverse hotel-to-station service costs ¥1,500, requires hotel-front-desk processing by 10:00, and offers collection 14:00–20:00. Check Crosta's current services and supported hotels.
Do not apply those cutoffs to every company. Yamato's Kyoto service specifies a 10:00 shipping deadline for its listed same-day services, limited destination areas, and hotels able to receive luggage at a front desk. Standard intercity forwarding is a different service; confirm the delivery date before sending bags onward.
Keep medication, valuables and what you need before delivery with you. An evening delivery estimate does not mean the bag will be at your hotel for an early afternoon change of clothes. Confirm the name on the hotel booking, destination address and arrival date with the operator.
Fit collection into your sightseeing route
A short stop between trains
Use the Kyoto Station and To-ji half-day map, which returns to Kyoto Station. Read its actual sightseeing schedule before choosing your onward train. Add separate time for finding storage, queues, collection and reaching the departure platform; those tasks are not included in the sightseeing stops. If time becomes tight, shorten the visit instead of rushing bag collection.
Arrival day with a Kyoto hotel
Do the luggage handover first, then eat and choose one manageable part of the Kyoto two-day itinerary. Do not start its full morning route halfway through the day. With confirmed hotel delivery, finish sightseeing near dinner or your accommodation rather than automatically returning to Kyoto Station. With station storage, include that return before heading to your hotel.
A wet day or an early finish
Choose a compact section of the Nishiki and Shinkyogoku rainy-day route, keeping the station connection and collection deadline visible. Covered shopping does not make the whole journey weatherproof. If tired, collect the bags and check in; the unused sightseeing can stay optional.
For the correct rail operator and station, use our Kyoto transport guide. On the 10-day Japan itinerary or 14-day itinerary, treat this as an arrival/departure logistics step, not an extra sightseeing day.
Before you leave your bags
- Confirm the exact pickup location and deadline, not just the operator's name.
- Ask how charges change overnight or if you collect late.
- Check the bag fits the service's size, weight and contents rules.
- Allow a collection buffer before your reserved train; do not use the counter's closing time as your target arrival time.
- If a locker or counter is full, use the city service map or your accommodation's confirmed arrangement. Do not assume a reservation exists until you have its confirmation.
