Is this route right for you?

Choose Okazaki for one small art exhibition and a spacious stroll garden, without crossing Kyoto between every stop. This route is for visitors who want to look closely at art and gardens. It is a half-day alternative to the museum day in a longer Kyoto itinerary, not an extra pair of museums to stack onto that day.

09:45–14:30 · 4h 45m including visits, travel and food. These are editorial planning allowances, not measured journeys or live queues.

What you will actually see

Hosomi has rotating exhibitions and no permanent display: check what is actually showing before you buy. You are not guaranteed to see every famous artist in its collection. At Heian Jingu, the shrine courtyard and paid Shin-en garden are different visits. The garden photo was taken in spring; blossom or autumn-colour timing is never guaranteed. The stepping stones are optional, and paths can be uneven or slippery.

Start, finish and connections

Start at Higashiyama Station Exit 2 at 09:45. Hosomi’s official directions give about ten minutes on foot; allow fifteen with crossings. Finish back at Higashiyama Station after walking south from Heian Jingu.

09:45–10:00: Higashiyama Station → Hosomi. Use Exit 2 and walk north toward Okazaki.

14:05–14:30: Heian Jingu → Higashiyama Station. Walk south past the great torii and toward Sanjo; use public crossings.

Map lines show stop order, not navigable walking paths. Use the public entrances and Google Maps directions for your travel date.
